McKenna
Bishop

McKenna Bishop grew up in a rural village in Michigan. In 2011, she graduated from College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. 2011- 2016 she worked in a car manufacturing plant. In 2016, she had her daughter, who helped start the career path to teaching art. In 2019, she finished her teacher certification at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

For the past two years, Bishop found a new discovery of play with a sewing machine and slip casting ceramics. Currently, she teaches art to 700 early elementary students in Southwest Michigan.

The MFA Thesis Exhibitions for the Class of 2023 are interdisciplinary shows that incorporate a range of making practices unified by the overwhelming concerns these students have for their environment, their communities, their families, and their own well-being. With an emphasis on the personal, and at times the anecdotal, these 21 artists make a variety of contributions in the form of ceramics, garments, furniture, installations, paintings, photographs, poems, prints, sculptures, and videos. The nature of their work and research demonstrates the caliber and cultural relevance of our program.
