Phoebe
Phoebe Snyder was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1995. Growing up Snyder was always encouraged to appreciate the beauty of the everyday world. This appreciation for the every day translated into a love of photography. She attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City and graduated with her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2017, with a specific focus on self-portraiture.
Snyder has had work published in Vice, GUP International, and a cover feature in Fluter Magazine. She has exhibited in national and international group exhibitions like 15 Years of Draft: A Retrospective of the RIT Student-Run Publication and “Unverschämte Schönheit” in Germany.
Engaged Intimacy: Engaged Intimacy uses self-portraiture to document and dissect a moment of my being and a part of my personhood. In this work, I place myself within an experiential context, while also capturing the qualities of ordinary daily occurrences. This series blurs the line between fiction and truth, incorporating views of daily life to reveal the complexity of my personal experience and the continuous evolution of my identity over time. It explores my small subjective experiences of the world and the intimate relationship I am in. By using my body and my partner's body I am able to show gender, ordinary affects, and the essence of the original experience, whatever that may be.
